Faux Wood Grain on MDF Drawers
A few weeks ago I was asked by my neighbours to take some MDF drawers which they had and make them look nicer, through the use of the right finish…
They had had two fitted wardrobes made to measure in their bedroom. While the outside of the units looks fantastic, made from some beautiful pieces of dark stained pine, they were disappointed to find out that when the cupboard doors were opened it revealed some very underwhelming, un-finished MDF drawers. So they came to me with a simple request - to make the drawer fronts look nice.
I experimented with a few different stains before concluding that stained MDF just looks like normal MDF but with a bit of stain on it. There was just no hiding it. So I decided to use my own faux wood grain waxing technique which involves a selection of different coloured waxes from Briwax (my go-to wax for low wear surfaces), some sandpaper, wire wool, some buffing cloths and a long time love for the beauty of natural wood grain.
Check out the photos of the original plain looking drawer fronts and the finished and upgraded product.
I offer this service from £15/sq ft in any colour to match an existing grain pattern as closely as possible.
